6/24/09
Story by Mike McNamara

Well the morning started a little on the hectic side, to say the least, with everyone hyped up including me.  It was a little breezy with a light rain but all the children just wanted to catch those big smallies.  It was like Christmas with everyone just biting at the bit to get out there and maybe all a little spoiled with past events start-ups.  New year, new club, new formalities all take some getting used to when you are mentally psyched for catching that one big fish that will put you in the money.  Its been a long winter and no one wants to be hanging around waiting to get started.   Hugs and kisses.

Well with all the drama of the morning registrations, everyone was still able to get out and catch some nice fish.

First place winner Peter Weeks took this spot using spinner baits all day. His arms look like Popeye, white with a chartreuse trailer.  Peter caught all his big fish early on with the wind blown shores of Newfound.   He popped his lunker smallmouth during that little bit of rain we all got.  Peter took the second lunker with 4.23 and first place overall with 7.92.  Well done.

Coming in second, Mr. Consistency, the old old old man Alan Denise with 7.88 anchored by a 4.19. Alan caught all of his fish on a spider grub fishing deep points and the edges. Well done.

Coming in third was  Mike McNary.  This young man caught his lunker right in front of Katie and I and this was the number one lunker which weighed  4.34 giving Mike a total weight of 7.48. Mike talks to catching all of his fish on Senkos in one to three feet of water.  He culled a bunch of times.  Well done Michael.

Fourth place going to Joe Perez was anchored with a 4.00 pound smallie, four pounds even giving him a total of 7.46.  Joe had one of those days.  He caught one of his good sized fish on a spook during that little drizzle we had.  He had his two big fish straight off and struggled on the other side trying to get bigger,  None the less well done.

Coming in fifth on the back of my boat, Miss Katie Jo McNamara. Damn did I tell ya its tough to take when a girl beats you but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Katie caught most of her fish on spider grubs on deeper edges and off  on catching some fish with Senkos.  Her  total weight was 7.36 which was a tie,  but her 4.06 broke the tie she had with Joe Lucharelli and Paul Engaland.  Did I say this was a three way tie?  7.36 for the last three spots, fifth, sixth and seventh.  Amazing.

Sixth place went to Joe Lucharelli. Joe didn’t put any fish in the  box until 1:30 only because they weren’t big enough.  What is that theme?  Go Big or Go Home and surely when you are fishing for Newfound smallies it is all about Big.  Joe caught most of his fish on Senkos including his big fish which was 4.02 giving him a total of 7.36.
Seventh place, the third in the tie, Paul England.  Paul caught all of his fish on an England brothers special shaky head.  He actually talks to catching his first fish on his first cast.  Now that is the way to start a day.  But as most he caught those bigger fish and then struggled to catch something bigger.  Well done Paul and good luck with the business.

Taking our coveted First Loser Pool, Bobby girl Hurst.  Bob got to be in that first loser spot by catching that last fish at the last minute in front of 15 to 20 of us at the beach.  This fish was 4.16 giving him a total 7.34.

So now, with all that said, we had a old friend but yet a guest, Todd Alberto from USA Bassin. He was there to get a feel for the lake and to represent his trail, which is of course which is USA Bassin, and to be present for a drawing for a free membership for that trail.  The recipient was Gary Croteau.  Congratulations.   Winning our free entry for 2009 Midweeks is John Wright. Other sponsor giveaways, Truly Wood gave away three gift certificates, Thank you Bob Hurst.  Josh lane, 25   Mike Rogers $25, Joe Perez, $50.   We had one other giveaway from Grizz Baits and that was Chuck Huston.  Thank you for coming.

The drama ends as the day closes.  OK, as everyone knows I detach my trailer from my truck and bring all the equipment to the beach leaving my daughter to drive my boat to the beach and off we go. AT the end of the day, as she was getting ready to drive the boat back to the trailer, the battery dies.  Thank you  Alan and Joe for taking care of my baby and doing battery swap outs to get my boat back to its ride home, which by the way is now the Marina and not home. As the day would have it, as I am getting the boat on the trailer , the camera and my foot meet and the camera takes a dive.   My saga ends on that note.  My apologies to those with big smallies, those memories will have to serve you.  The camera is now sitting in a bag of rice trying to dry out.

I wish we had a pic of your face when the camera went into the drink, oh my lord Undecided.  Mike we appreciate all your hard work to make these events special, and even exist.  Thank you from basscaster joe.  Additionally, Greg did an awsome job with the score to pull us through all those ties.  wow  See you all on winni
