Midweek 7/08/09
Story by Mike McNamara
So the day starts off a little on the cloudy side, and who knew we were going to be schooled. But anyway I will get to the schooling later, but for now a great bunch of guys helping each other. It’s absolutely wonderful., everyone helping each other dumping trailers, parking and the gyrations we have to go through to use this facility. As the day ended we had the same great group help and take care of our fish. Thank you to all those volunteers. We truly appreciate you running those fish. I don’t want to miss anyone, so I am not going to name anyone, you know who you are, but I don’t want to go without saying thank you.
Lets all go to school now. Lets call this the Peter (Skeet) Weeks school of catching. LOL Peter certainly deserves a big round of applause. I for one am quite impressed with his back to back wins. Peter talks to having his limit by noon, culled maybe five more times using that spinner bait and that trusty trusty trusty drop shot. Added to his limit and anchoring his bag of 15.25 his lunker smallmouth at 4.33. Peter stayed on that smallmouth bite all day bringing to the scales 5 beautiful smallies and taking home his second win in a row. I personally am going to send a letter to Skeeter boats talking the smack about Mr. Peter (Skeet) Weeks. Well done. See you at Winnisquam
Coming in second, Mike Vining, another name we know. Mike is no stranger to the winner’s circle and with a bag of 15.09 he should be in that winner’s circle. Mike talks to only having 5 bites, the five that he came to the scale with. Mike talks to catching his two four pound fish on jigs. He caught two others on a spinner bait and then talks to sight fishing a freshly made bed. Cant tell you where, I know where, but wanted to share that the six pound female wouldn’t commit but Mike caught the 2.5 pound male using a bitsy bug.
Coming in third Mr. John Diaco. Looky looky, John is fishing for smallies. Kinda funny right after the tournament got a call from his friend Todd asking how the tournament went and a friend asking about how a friend did, and when I said John caught smallmouth, Todd says no way, no way. so as the day would end, John actually came to the scale with 2 large and 3 small and his anchoring fish was a smallmouth at 3.39. John talks to catching a bunch of smallies on spooks and of course his trusty jig for his largemouth. Well done John. It was good to see you playing hooky or is this your day off now. Either way it was good to see you, come again soon.
In fourth with an impressive largemouth anchoring, his 14.46 bag was Josh Lane. Josh got his limit by 11 am. He caught his big fish on a jig and culled about five times. Katie and I got to see Josh a couple of times, I think his tactics certainly paid off, that run and gun. Certainly he made the right moves because he had some impressive fish in that bag. Well done and see you at Winnisquam.
Coming in fifth Joe Lucarelli with 14.13. Joe talked to having his limit by 9:30. He talks about junk fishing. Doesn’t that just throw a smile on your face. His junk fishing is throwing spook, spider grubs, jigs, and drop shot. Joe definitely had fun ribbing his buddy Peter and talking that smack. Got ta love it.
Finally coming in the money as our coveted first loser was George Geogopoulus,. George shared, “finally I make some money at this game”. He didn’t just make money he won that first loser money and then throw in the lunker largemouth at 5.63, damn you are talking a payday. That lunker came early right around 8 am. George talks to using a rocky ledge black and blue jig. Fishing on the deep side of the dock he captured that winning fish in quick order. Great job, well done. See you at Winnisquam
