Sweetheart 7/11/09
Story by Mike McNamara
Well our second Sweetheart Tournament of 2009 has come and gone and yes it has become our Yearly tournament on Massabesic, and as always the sweethearts were in rare form. Sara and I were privy to a conversation at the ramp between Teresa and Mark Fournier while they were getting ready to put in, who ended up being our tournament winners. It is a cute story talking about bananas and boats, good luck and bad luck, so now we have new rules. Bananas are good luck. Why is that you ask, well we are talking about the winning sweetheart team coming in with 14.01 for a 6 fish limit anchoring that winning bag with our lunker largemouth at 4.15. So the rules of the game have changed. Bananas are allowed in boats. Teresa and Mark talk about catching that big largemouth in 20 feet of water on a rig. Mark got pretty angry at himself once he got hooked up with the fish cuz during the fight somehow and someway he hit the bail and somehow it spooled and spooled and spooled. As Mark started to retrieve it he was passafrazzing , hassafrazzing but oh there it is. How does that song go, whoops there goes another, whoops there goes another, whoops there goes another ……….. and the fight was on. Well done, congratulations. .See you at the next one on Winnipeasaukee on August 22.
Coming in second, the Barbie and Ken fishing team of Katie Jo McNamara and Ryan Richardson. This sweetheart team talks to catching fish throughout the day. They had their limit by 11 am and culled a couple more times. The secret was throwing that Senko up under the bush and on that occasion when they saw some fry, of course tossing it in the middle of the fry. This team also secured our lunker smallmouth caught by Katie Jo weighing in at 2.67. As their day went on, they were looking to cull one fish that they actually started their day with, it was a little smaller than the rest but it was the fish that started their day. Congratulation Katie and Ryan.
Coming in third and finally being dethroned on Massabesic, Betty and Alan Denise and boy did we raze ole man Alan and I think Betty was razing him as well. Alan shared at the scale with a little whine about some sort of big ass fish breaking him off with only minutes to go. I think Sara and I saw it happen, and I think it was a big pickerel, but you have to give the benefit to him, he is old.
Coming in fourth, Susan Tsao and David Tsao, Susan making her debut at our Yearly tournament at Massabesic. This sweetheart got to finish her book, did some sunning, took a nap and worked the net. I think we got her hooked though cuz after the tournament we all had dinner together and Susan was very excited about the upcoming tournament in August. As this sweetheart team talked to the new Skeeter jinx being off. Seven bites, seven fish in the boat for 11.51. Susan and Dave talked to only having two small fish until about noon and from noon on fished shoreline brush up close and personal,. Well done.
Taking our coveted first loser pool the brother and sister team, having a real hoot of a time, Stacy and John Wright. At the photo shoot, Stacy stomped her feet and didn’t want to put up the first loser sign, but we talked her into in and then she saw the fun of it all. The win doesn’t have to be pretty as long as it is green. Stacy and John culled with minutes to go to take that first loser spot, 9.90 just beating out the sweetheart team of Denise Allain and Gary Croteau with their bag of 9.76. Now that makes it sweet. Right to the wire.
Thank you Purely Wood for all the gift certificates that we were able to give away to our sweethearts.
Next tournament will be our final sweetheart of the year out of Lees Mills followed by a barbeque. For those that would like to bring something please contact Beth and Greg Day, 603-867-3264. For those that were there last year, you know it was fun and I sure you will want to join in on it again this year. The menu goes like this: it will be hot dogs, burgers some drinks and chips, maybe a sweet or two, but no matter what, it will be a hoot.
Catch them all.
