Midweek 7/22/09
Story by Mike McNamara

Well another Midweek Wednesday and it is becoming more and more evident that Wednesday is no longer Prince spaghetti day it is bass fishing day.  What a wonderful group we have, from the tiniest, our 4 year old pretty girl to our ole man.  It is great to see so many coming out to play.  Lots of new players, lots of old players.

Coming in first place  John Wright with a very impressive bag of 15.82.  John almost had lunker smallmouth with his 4.00 anchoring his bag of 5 smallies.  Did I say impressive?  If I didn’t I should have.  Well done John.  John talks to catching most of his fish using a drop shot and top water.  John had his limit by 11ish and really didn’t cull anything to upgrade what he had already caught.  From our secret spot, which we can not speak of, we talked and his question to me was  what do you think  the wining weight will be and  I said 16 - 17 pounds.  He just looked at me and said well I have to go catch me some bigger fish...  Unbeknown  to us, the bag he had was his winning bag .  He is such a sandbagger.  Again John Well done.   See you at the next one August 5 on Ossipee.  Good luck to you and Peter on Saturday.

Second place winner was John Diaco with a mixed bag of tricks with a total weight of 14.74.  Anchoring his bag was our lunker smallmouth at 4.01.  So, John was in our secret spot before the other John got there.  I don’t know if my secret spot is a secret spot anymore.  Anyway it was fun fishing around you and it was great to get a double hook up in two separate boats.  John talks to catching almost all of his fish on top water until about 11 am then he was off to bang those docks with his trusty jig.  We will have to be calling his jig Excalibur. Well done John, now that you have a new work schedule, we will see you at the next Midweek as well.  

Coming in third was Douglas Plasencia. So, Douglas in his new ride absolutely starts off with top water.  He shared it was gold but the color of money is green, just like his new ride.  Doug got the majority of his fish on top water.  He got one through the day on a Carolina rig, had his limit by 11:30 and worked it to cull up to his winning weight of 13.56 anchored by a 3.65 smallie matching his four other smallies on an average of 2.4 pounds.  Not bad. Was good to see you, hope to see you at the next one and the rest of them after that.

Coming in fourth Dennis Mueller.  This proud daddy got to play all day, catch 5 beautiful smallmouth for 13.54 anchored by a 3.44. One of our newest members, cashing in in his first tournament of the year with us, also catching a hug from his beautiful daughter Jessica, our tiniest fisherperson.    Happy birthday Jessica. I think I saw Dad giving mommy the money to get you a little something.  So when the photos are up look for the prettiest  little little little blonde. Dennis talks to catching his fish on tubes, drop shot and spinner baits.  This young man had his limit by 9:30 and culled 8 times.  Well done. . Hope to see you at the next and then the next after that.

Coming in fifth was Brian Trefry with 13.34.  Anchoring his bag of 5 smallies, his big fish was 3.49.  Brian worked a rig and top water.  Brian, another new member, we are glad to have you, talks to having  his limit by 9am and culled 10 -12 times thought the course of the day. He talks to a lot of fish following his plug that might have put him in the higher payouts.  Well done, Big crowd and you beat a lot of great players.  Well done.

With 12.52 Peter Weeks took sixth place concentrating on all those small faces. He came to the scale with 5 smallies.  Peter talks to catching them on a drop shot on top water and that trusty trusty spinner bait.  Good luck to you and John Saturday.

Coming in seventh Brian LeFrancois.  Brian had a fun day, he talked to catching fish in front of people, no names but damn he enjoyed that.  He caught a lot of fish on Senkos, one on a rig, had his limit by 11:30 and culled through the day five more times.  Unfortunately he could not get those big ones he saw to commit to the rig or the Senko. None the less Brian, well done.

Taking our coveted first losers pool, the old old old grumpy, grumpy, grumpy Alan Denise.  Alan talks to a rough day on Winnisquam but he pulled it out of his butt while he and John Diaco were talking out in front of the river. Alan caught his fourth fish, oh did I say he only had three at that point, that fourth fish gave him some serious mula. Congratulations and good luck to you and Scotty Saturday.

Getting that lunker and beating out that old man was Holden Demers with a beautiful 5.35 largemouth. Well done.  You beat the old man which always makes me happy.

As always, thank you to all that help to make our Midweeks such a great show.
