Midweek 9/16/09
Story by Mike McNamara
Its’ official, its fall. So I came am in early because I didn’t do very well, crap, I didn’t catch a damn thing. Weatherman lied again, wind was only going to be 6 to 10 out of the north, well it was out of the north at 20+ most of the day. As I finished setting up the weigh in equipment I look out and the lake is laying down, just a little to late for me. Ok, so I am standing there putting the finishing the touches on the scale and table and I lookout and there are at least 5 guys already out there and it is only 2:15 pm. With the lake laying down, I am thinking that it hasn’t helped anybody so I did wonder as they sat out there is that a good sign or a bad sign, I am thinking that it is not a good sign. As I said earlier, its official, fall is here.
Coming in first place, Mr. Ed Rivera with 14.08. Ed shared with me after the tournament he had seven bites and got a lucky largemouth in the areas he was fishing. He caught everything on a spider grub and spent the majority of the day running and gunning. Congratulation, well done.
Coming in second place Mark Miner using crank baits and spider grubs all day fishing in 20 to 30 feet of water for a total bag of 13.55 anchored by a 3.38 smallmouth. Mr. September loves Winnisquam. It was good to see you Mark, Congratulations.
Coming in third young Mr. Chris Girard with five smallmouth totaling 13.30. This young man was culling by 8:30 using a Carolina rig and a lizard in 13 feet of water. Come high noon, Chris would find that the bite was shut off completely. He caught nothing all afternoon. Congratulations
Coming in fourth, Steve Lucarelli. Steve came to the scale with 4 smallmouth and yes one largemouth. He anchored this bag with lunker smallmouth of 3.79, Steve talks to catching that largemouth in eight feet of water and all of those smallmouths on a drop shot sitting on a flat rotting on the bait. This reporter is speculating but I believe that Steve was using that new Yamamoto drop shot shad. Well done.
Coming in fifth, Chuck Huston with just three fish. He captured lunker largemouth with a 4.57 and those three fish totaled 11.76. Even though Chuck came in fifth, this young man talks to dropping a whole lot of fish. He found a whole lot of largemouth chasing bait and stayed on them all day. Unfortunately, he dropped fish, lost fish etc. I know of one story. Chuck was the recipient of our Grizz baits a month ago and one of those fish he lost took that spinner bait. But, as luck would have it, Chuck would win another Grizz baits giveaway. Lucky guy.
Congrats to all. See you at Winnipesaukee.
