Midweek 9/30/09
Story by Mike McNamara

The weather man said breezy, well why don’t they just say what it is - its going to blow and stay home??    Oh well.  We had some excitement at the start of our day with a few mishaps at the ramp, it looked like a bunch of brain surgeons on the dock but oh boy, they engineered out the problem.  You would think that we would learn from our mistakes, but oh nooo we are just dumb fisherman. So it happened again and again.  LMAO

Mike Vining strikes again with his big ass jig and lands himself  the lunker largemouth of the day coming to the scale at 6.09.  His final bag was 17.30. Nice.  Mike shared that this was his first fish of the day, fishing in a grass flat.  Mike was hucking and chucking that jig and his other secret weapon, his swim bait. Mike got 8 bites, put 8 fish in the boat and culled three times. Congratulations Michael, very, very impressive.

Coming in second Mr. Steve Graham throwing that perfect Steve Graham jig along with a rattle trap and a spider grub. Had all his fish early on, never caught another after noon.  He anchored his 16.19 bag with a very impressive greenie at 5.51.  Steve shared that he caught his big one on a rattle trap, now that is fun.

Coming in third, John Wright with 12.38.  He had four very impressive smallies and one greenie.  His big smallmouth anchored his bag at 2.98. John shared at the scales that he dropped a ton of fish. As we all know, that is heart wrenching, but its fishing.  John also shared at the scales he was junk fishing to catch his 12 plus pound bag.  He did a little top water, did a little rigging, little drop shotting, a little crank baiting.  He had his limit at 8:30. Did I say that yet?  He had his limit at 8;30 and culled four times.

Coming in fourth place, Steve Lucharelli with 11.37. Anchoring this impressive bag of smallies with a 3.21 smallie.  Steve shared catching most of his fish drop shotting and on a Carolina rig.  He did share that he caught his biggest fish on a Carolina rig.  Later in the day he pulled out the jerk bait and culled a few times.  Well done and double congratulations for winning with us but also winning the Northern Bass Appreciation Tournament and making the TOC.

Taking our coveted first loser pool, ME.  I got five bites, three on a drop shot and two on a spider grub and all five bites I must have hit them in the head.  I got no sniffs, got nothing ,  but I am the first loser today.

Catching that big smallface today was Ed Rivera.  Now catch them like that at the TOC.  If I did the math right, WOW.   3.38 x 8???      Also congratulations on winning our Grizz Bait giveaway.

Ok let me throw out there ladies and gentlemen, if you did not already know, we have a very impressive group we fish with.  If I haven’t said it to each of you, thank you for a great season.  We have one more,  Oct 14.  We will all know at that time who won Northern Bass’s TOC.  With that said, I want to throw out there a very sincere good luck to all those who are participating, but a couple of players who come to our midweek’s, a special special good luck.   Catch them all.   That goes out to the ole man Alan Denise and Scott Canelis and Steve Graham and Matt Dupree , all the best, Ed Rivera and Bill Lentine, Steve Lucarelli and Joseph Lucarelli, and if I have forgotten anyone, my apologies, I do wish you all well.
