Midweek 5/05/10
Story by Mike McNamara
New Hampshire Bass Casters, Cast Your Dreams, held its first Midweek of the 2010 season and what a turnout we had. 38 anglers turned out to play. Lots of familiar faces and many new faces.
This must be the year of the Triple Crown, First we have a Triple crown at the Team event on May 2nd. and now we have another Triple Crown winner today, Chris Girouard. What a great way to start the year. Congratulations Chris.
Now on to what you have been waiting for.
Taking first place, and our Triple Crown winner, Chris Girouard, with 11.01. His largemouth at 7.37 was coupled with his smallmouth at 3.97. How sweet that was!. Chris fished the main lake for smallmouth till 2:20 then came back to the waters of States Landing and caught his big one just before 3. He had his limit on the main lake at 8am, catching them on jigs and spinner baits all day long. He caught that big on a jig just in time to call it a day. Well done. This young man was one of the last to weigh in, so as the drama of the day went on, he came in to squash the field.
Steve Lucarelli took second place, Congratulations. Steve spent his entire day sight fishing. He caught his big one which was 5.09, and, by the way, Mr. Lucarelli can catch largemouth. His impressive bag of 8.96 locked him solidly into second place and gave him the opportunity to take a little lunch break at the States Landing beach just before weigh in.
Coming in third was Josh lane. His big largemouth was 5.60. By the way Josh weighed in right after Steve Lucarelli and thought he had taken lunker largemouth. Well for the time being. Josh was working a swim bait over coon tails and fresh growth. Throwing a jig to back up his misses. Well done and congrats on the 8.85 and taking third place.
Coming in fourth place, John Wright with 2 largemouth, with one rather impressive one at 4.55. This young man talks to catching them sight fishing as well, but there was an interesting twist in his story to this reporter. We always have to have a fish story to tell. He worked this one big fish for a while, and didn’t get a break. He came back later and finally the tell tale flair up and game on. He gets it in the boat, as he shared, so then he takes a well deserved break and lo and behold here comes a second fish to go right back on that bed, the same bed mind you. This is going to sound like Santa Claus is coming to town, but John jumps up and grabs his trusty weapon, sets aside that sandwich and starts working that bed again and yes the result is John catches a second bass off the same bed to give him that fourth place finish at 8.46. Kinda cool story. Just like Christmas.
Coming in fifth, Steve Graham, throwing his perfect jig. This young man had a co-angler and as we all know Steve as a jig ho, Steve was throwing his Steve Graham perfect jig and front ending the heck out of Lou Bartley. As I was gathering the report, I asked Lou directly did you ever get a shot at those fish, His answer, A few I think. I had to go around Steve, a tree and a trolling motor, but I got to them. Steve held the lunker largemouth for a little while with 5.61 but as the day ends well you know. Congratulations Steve.
Sixth spot went to Mike Vining. Mike worked the whole lake. I have reports that he was sighted in that tracker very far from States Landing. Mike took our sixth and final payout spot with 8.25 with a kicker 5.13 largemouth.
Taking our coveted First Loser spot, long time friend, Scott Canelas with 7.96. Scott actually got nervous that we had forgotten to pay out the first loser pool. I think he might have yelled at me, not really. When we went to do the photos it was found that I hadn’t pay it out yet Damn Greg
