Well Newfound, here we are on an overcast day. Weatherman is wrong once again. It’s all right though. Everybody was staged for a great day, to find that it was a tough bite for big fish. The majority of the fish in general were caught post-spawn with very very very few left bedding. We had 34 players all vying for that first place win which today will pay out $500 on the money. Not bad for a $40 Entry Fee.  Throw in the optional lunker pool and that coveted first loser pool at $170 for lunkers and first loser, all optional, but everybody wants to play.  Well enough of that.

First up at the scales was  Nancy Tower,  Boat #2, and she  breaks the ice and gets the groups adrenaline going with 4.30.

Taking first place was Doug Hume.  Working Senkos and  spinner baits he capitalized on those post spawn fish sitting in shallow and throwing into the deeper drop-offs, missing it up occasionally with a plug and jerk bait. Doug’s bag was anchored with a 3.84 and a very respectable second fish giving him a weight at the scale of 7.28.  Well done Doug. Congratulations and it was good to see you

Coming in second, Mike Pontone with a grand total of 7.19.  Mike also had a very respectable large fish at 3.69. I think Mike talks to targeting cruising fish on the flats.  Through the course of the day Mike culled at least four times, almost all of his fish came on a jerk bait or a small plug.  Well done.

Coming in third, Cory Nearing with 7.14 anchored by a 3.88 taking our second lunker smallface.  Remember gang, split lunker, the state says there are largemouth here. But if we have no large mouth we have two smallmouth payouts. Congratulations Cory, nice payday.  Cory  talks to catching the majority of his fish on tubes.

Coming in fourth, Shane Hutchings. This young man had himself a small dilemma . Somewhere early in the morning, he caught a smallface and unfortunate turn of events it took a nap. Well because this fish was sleeping when he got to the scale, Shane missed out on a bigger payday, and that second lunker spot. But because he had that sleeping fish which was 3.88 which was a tie with Cory, it was negated by total weight of 6.92.  Shane, you are a good man, you did the right thing and it cost you money. That’s not a kick in the dink my friend, you have morals.  Thank you for being you.

THERE IS NO CULLING OF DEAD FISH.

Coming in fifth place, Doug Plasencia. Doug targeted post spawn fish all day using small plugs.  Anchoring his bag of 6.71 was his large fish of 3.54. Congratulations and it was good to see you again and hope to see you soon.

Taking our coveted first loser pool Bill Lentine Jr with a total bag of 6.71.  Bill also targeted cruising fish, fishing very shallow the whole day. Well done, Congratulations and see you at the next one.

Jerry McCart went home with our Grizz Baits give away and our free entry went to Chuck Huston.

See you all at the next Midweek, July 14th, on Winnisquam  casting your dreams.
